Our principal and staff
Our school team is committed to every student’s learning, wellbeing and sense of belonging. We work together to create a supportive and inclusive school where every child is set up for success.
Welcome from our Principal
"Billabong High School is a rural comprehensive high school located in the Greater Hume Shire between Albury and Wagga Wagga. The student population is approximately 320 students. The school is situated on Wiradjuri land and eleven percent of the student population identify as having an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background.
Students travel from several local townships to attend Billabong High School and the school works in partnership with the community to seek high quality educational outcomes for all students. Priorities include pursuing excellence, driving literacy and numeracy growth, collaborative practice, and the development of an inclusive and positive school culture that promotes wellbeing for both students and staff alike.
The school is fully staffed and has a broad range of teachers at various career stages. Higher accreditation is proactively sought, with a strong focus on continual improvement in teaching practice. There is a supportive and collegial culture amongst staff and collective efficacy is a focus and priority.
The school has three multi-categorical classes including an integration support class and a structured teaching support class. A Learning and Wellbeing Hub was established in 2021 to provide targeted support across the school. Students access the Wellbeing Hub to engage in activities aimed at improving wellbeing outcomes and school connections. The school ensures students have access to a range of high-quality facilities for example, commercial-grade hospitality and industrial arts spaces, and sporting amenities.
The school has achieved academically across several pursuits including the completion of further studies at tertiary institutions. Billabong High School students also enjoy high levels of employability and are actively sought by local businesses and employers. The school competes in the full range of sporting pursuits and has experienced significant success including winning several state championships and fielding numerous Riverina, state and national representatives. A highly accomplished agriculture program has consistently provided a career pathway for students, and the school's Show Team has achieved ongoing accolades including winning major awards at the Royal Melbourne Show. Students engage in numerous extracurricular activities including debating and public speaking competitions, and in the performing and creative arts. The school also encourages the development of good citizenship and therefore provides opportunities for volunteering, refereeing and umpiring at primary school sporting events as well as participation in local community events such as Australia Day and Anzac Day ceremonies."
