Bring your own device (BYOD)

Bring your own device (BYOD) refers to technology models where students bring a personally owned device to school for the purpose of learning. A personally owned device is any technology device brought into the school and owned by a student (or the student's family), staff or guests" (Alberta Education, 2012). Put simply, BYOD is a solution where students quite literally bring their own device to school in order to access the Internet and/or school network by 3G or Wi-Fi, be it a tablet, laptop or other device.

How it works

All students are encouraged to bring their own computing device to school every day. The school makes recommendations as to the specifications of the device students may choose to bring.

Students are required to sign a Student Agreement that sets out how the device can be used at school. Members of the school staff and the Technical Support Officer are available to answer questions and to give assistance. However, the school does not manage, support, own or warranty the device – the device remains owned by families. Our BYOD policy can be downloaded for more detailed information:
